I am Juan Rúa-Serna. I balance my time between being a Ph.D. student at the City University of New York, The Graduate Center, a husband, and a very annoying cat caregiver. Who am I kidding, here? I am merely Malena and Benito’s staff. But you are here, I guess, because of the first thing, so a couple of things about that.I am deeply interested in the challenges that human rights face these days, and my research seeks to establish connections among immigration, refugee protection, immigrants’ political participation, integration, and democratic resilience. Yes, I know, that’s a lot. My research will focus on Colombia and will seek to understand how Venezuelan immigrants have politically voiced their concerns, what their actions and logics of political participation have been, and how all of this has shaped social and political integration.
My non-academic writing explores many, many things (mostly in Spanish), and I keep a Substack site where I publish most of my stuff.
